QUINCY -- All residents were able to escape from a Quincy house fire Saturday evening.

Quincy firefighters were called about 5:30 p.m. to 2002 W. Hilltop Drive on a report of smoke coming from the roof of the house.

"When we pulled up, we had heavy black smoke coming from the eaves," Assistant Chief Scott Lucey said. "Engine Company 5 pulled up and put a good hit on the inside. They couldn't quite get to the base of the fire. We had to pull them out and ventilate the structure and clear it off."

An additional engine company was called to the scene to assist with firefighting efforts.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Lucey said there were no working smoke detectors in the house. He said an occupant alerted others in the house that there was a fire and all escaped.

Lucey believed four people were in the home at the time of the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Assisting at the scene were the Adams County Ambulance Service, the Quincy Police Department, the Quincy Fire Department Rehab Team and Ameren Illinois.
