QUINCY -- An early Sunday morning crash on Payson Road, just east of South 36th, left a driver and his passenger with serious injuries.

The Adams County Sheriff's Department reports a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Cameron L. Price, 20, of Louisiana, attempted to pass a vehicle at 12:18 a.m. when it almost struck a gray full-sized van traveling westbound on Payson Road. The department said the driver of the Explorer over-corrected to get back into his lane, lost control and hit the ditch, causing the vehicle to go airborne and roll several times.

Both the Explorer's driver and passenger, Tyler A. Rumple, 21, of Versailles, were ejected from the vehicle and taken by Adams County Ambulance to Blessing Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation, the department said, but Price was cited for no valid driver's license and illegal lane usage with charges pending for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The department was assisted by the Quincy Police Department, Tri-Township Fire and Adams County Ambulance.
