Extra points: The Cyclones have gone 6-4 since this matchup was postponed because of the weather on Jan. 11 and then again on Jan. 29, while the Raiders have gone 8-0 in the same span. SHG lost two of three games in the Springfield City Tournament, falling 83-50 to Southeast, the No. 1 team in Class 3A, and to Springfield 51-45. Other losses have been to solid teams -- 87-84 to Galesburg in overtime, 81-71 to Class 4A state-ranked Moline and 75-62 to Class 2A state-ranked Teutopolis in the finals of the Effingham Christmas Tournament. They've split with Normal University High, Springfield Lanphier and Decatur MacArthur. SHG, which hasn't won 17 games in a season since 2014, recently earned the fourth seed in one of the sub-sectionals in the Class 3A Springfield Southeast Sectional and will play the host school in the Jerseyville Regional next Wednesday. QND earned the fifth seed in the same sub-sectional and will play third-seeded Taylorville in the Clinton Regional next Wednesday. The Cyclones are coached by Tim Allen, 33, a correctional officer at Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln. He guided the seventh-grade boys basketball team at Grant Junior High School in Springfield to undefeated records and consecutive Class 4A championships in 2017 and 2018. Nick Broeker, who has signed to be an offensive lineman at Mississippi next year, is averaging 18.6 points and 9.3 rebounds. He recently scored his 1,000th career point. Charlie Hamilton, a 6-foot-4 senior who is going to play football next year at Wisconsin-Whitewater, averages 15.8 points and almost four 3-pointers per game. Senior guard Joe Gustafson averages 11.1 points per game.
