North Shelby held off a late rally in the Missouri Class 1 District 10 girls basketball quarterfinals to upset Higbee 44-42 on Monday night in Laddonia, Mo.

North Shelby (7-14), the fifth seed, led by five points with less than two minutes to go before Higbee's Alexis Whisenand hit a mid-range jumper that cut the lead to three with less than a minute to play in regulation. When Higbee got the ball back, the Raiders fouled Jillian Huddleston on a jumper with 20 seconds remaining. Huddleston missed the first free throw but made the second to shrink the Raiders' lead to 44-42.

The Raiders were fouled on the next possession but missed two free throws. However, North Shelby's Hannah Wahl forced a turnover and Lilly Cook was fouled with a chance to close the game. Cook missed both free throws, but Higbee (15-7) did not get a final shot off as North Shelby forced a turnover as time expired.

North Shelby will play top-seeded Community R-6 (22-2) in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
