Palmyra, Monroe City reach district semifinals

The second-seeded Palmyra boys basketball team coasted past Macon 79-49 in the Missouri Class 3 District 13 quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Centralia, Mo.

The Panthers (21-4) outscored Macon 20-8 in the second quarter and took a 32-19 lead into halftime. Will Nunnelly scored eight third-quarter points, leading the Panthers to a 55-34 lead at the end of the quarter. The Panthers made 10 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Nunnelly finished with 19 points while Jayden Durst added 18. Palmyra will play Centralia in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Monroe City 66, Highland 21: The top-seeded Panthers had no issue in a Missouri Class 3 District 13 quarterfinal game played in Monroe City, Mo.

Monroe City (22-4) raced to a 34-11 lead behind nine points from Ethan Lehenbauer. C.E. Talton scored eight points in the third quarter as the Panthers led 58-18 at the start of the fourth quarter. Talton and Lehenbauer each had 14 points to lead the Panthers.

Highland finishes the season with a record of 5-15. Monroe City will play Hallsville in the district semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday in Centralia.

Hallsville 62, Clark County 55: The Indians' season came to an end in a loss in a Missouri Class 3 District 13 quarterfinal game in Monroe City, Mo.

Conner Mack scored 10 first-half points, keeping the Indians in the game as halftime score was tied at 31. Hallsville led 49-44 entering the fourth quarter. Clark County had no answer in the fourth quarter for Hallsville's BJ Fisher, who scored nine points of his 18 points in the final frame.

Mack scored 19 points for Clark County, which finishes the season with a record of 11-13.
