Upset earns Knox County game against No. 1 Milan

The Knox County boys basketball team limited South Shelby to just three fourth-quarter field goals and pulled off a 52-45 upset in the Missouri Class 2 District 6 quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Queen City, Mo.

Knox County (9-15), the fifth seed, will face Milan, ranked No. 1 in Class 2, in Thursday's semifinal.

Fourth-seeded South Shelby (11-14) trailed 31-22 at halftime but came back to within a point thanks to eight third-quarter points by Cole Mitchell. Knox County kept South Shelby at bay by hitting four of six free throws down the stretch.

Conner Hayes had five 3-pointers and 18 points for Knox County, and Trent Klocke added 13 points. Mitchell had 14 points for South Shelby, and teammate Guy Timbrook added 11 points.

Scotland County 68, Putnam County 58: Parker Triplett and Will Fromm combined for 34 points to lead the sixth-seeded Tigers to a victory in the Class 2 District 6 quarterfinals in Queen City. Matthew Woods scored eight of his 10 points in the second quarter to push Scotland County (6-15) to a 38-27 halftime lead. Putnam County (12-12) closed the gap to eight after three quarters, but Triplett made eight of 13 free throws in the fourth quarter to help Scotland County pull away. Triplett finished with 18 points, while Fromm added 16. Scotland County will play second-seeded Princeton in the district semifinals on Thursday.

North Shelby 64, Madison 50: The Raiders earned a quarterfinal victory in the Missouri Class 1 District 10 quarterfinals in Laddonia, Mo. Kirby Latimer led North Shelby with 17 points, 13 coming in the first half as the Raiders held a 32-23 advantage. Robert Uhlmeyer scored eight points in the third quarter and helped the Raiders (10-12) stay in front. Madison (7-16) only managed eight points in the fourth quarter.

North Shelby will play Community R-6 in the district semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Community R-6 75, Marion County 26: The Mustangs only scored four points in the second half in the Missouri Class 1 District 10 quarterfinals in Laddonia, Mo.

Community R-6 led 49-22 at halftime. Marion County, which ends its season with a 1-15 record, only had three players score. Sheldon Whetstone led the Mustangs with 14 points.

Canton 65, Higbee 39: The Tigers dominated in a Missouri Class 1 District 10 quarterfinal in Laddonia. William Gibson scored 28 of Higbee's 39 points but got little help. Ben McKenzie poured in 20 points to lead the Tigers, who led 42-18 at halftime. Canton (14-9) will play Wellsville in the district semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

West Hancock 52, Knoxville 43: Petyon Dooley scored 18 points to pace the Titans to a semifinal victory in Class 2A Monmouth-Roseville Regional. West Hancock (24-3), which played without center Lucas Dorethy, also got 12 points from Drew Masters and 10 from Drake Hammel. The Titans will play for the regional final on Friday against the winner of Wednesday's game between Eureka and Monmouth-Roseville. Knoxville finishes the season 12-17.
