The Quincy University softball team won its first two games at the NTC Spring Games Friday afternoon in Clermont, Fla.

QU opened with a 9-1 victory over Lake Erie, and followed with a 2-1 contest over University of the Sciences.

The Hawks (5-5) used a six-run first inning to pull away early against Lake Erie. Courtney Kernich had a two-run single, and she was followed by Audrey Hermann's bases-clearing hit.

Megan Sharpshair added a three-run homer in the third to make it 9-0. Alex DeVaney threw all five innings, allowing one run on two hits and four strikeouts.

In the second game, Kylie Powers' two-run homer broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning for all the run support MacKenzie Collier needed.

Collier threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and struck out three.

HLGU wins two: Kendra Jacob hit a walk-off grand slam to give the HLGU softball team a 7-6 victory over Cornerstone University in the final game of the PFXA Games in Clermont, Fla. Her homer helped the Trojans win two games on the day after beating Trinity Christian 7-6.

Against Trinity Christian, HLGU used RBI singles from Jordyn Alford, Sydney Newell and Danielle Wilcoxson to take a 7-4 advantage in the seventh inning.

Trinity Christian answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame, but stranded the tying run on second base.

Against Cornerstone, Alford hit a three-run homer, but HLGU trailed 6-3 in the sixth inning.

HLGU finished the tournament 6-4.

McKendree 3, Quincy 0: The Hawks were swept 25-22, 25-19, 25-19 in a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association matchup Friday in Lebanon, Mo.

QU (4-15, 0-9 MIVA) led once in the first set, but a four-point run allowed McKendree to take a 23-19 lead and put it away.

The Hawks led 11-9 in the second set, but McKendree scored eight of nine points to take a 17-12 lead, and in the final set QU fell to a 12-4 deficit and was unable to recover.

Jacob Sheets led the Hawks with 12 kills. Adam Rogan led QU with 31 assists.
