College softball roundup: Hawks salvage split in Florida

The Quincy University softball team used a three-run fifth inning to beat Shepherd 5-4 in the second of two games Saturday afternoon in the NTC Spring Games in Kissimee, Fla.

Quincy lost the first game to Long Island-Post 5-0.

Remi Ferguson had a double and a home run while driving in four runs for the Hawks (6-6).

Against Long Island-Post, QU had just one hit which came from Kay Bettendorf's single.

Culver-Stockton 13-3, Ottawa 1-14: The Wildcats earned a blow out victory, and were then blown out in a doubleheader in Kansas City, Kan.

In the opener, C-SC led 6-0 before erupting for a seven-run fifth inning to take a 13-0 lead. The Wildcats had just three hits in the frame, but one was a two-run double by Ashley Havermale.

C-SC had 12 hits. Andrea Rains had three hits.

McKenna O'Donnell picked up the victory after throwing four shutout innings.

In the nightcap, C-SC used a three-run third inning to close a deficit to 5-3, but Ottawa answered with nine unanswered runs to pull away.
