The Quincy University baseball team finally ran out of late-inning magic.

A string of winning four straight games in their final at-bat ended Tuesday afternoon when the Hawks scored only one run with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning against Upper Iowa, losing 10-6 at QU Stadium to split the non-conference doubleaheader.

Trailing 10-5 after giving up three runs in the top of the inning, the Hawks loaded the bases as Jeff Kalusniak walked, Joe Roscetti singled and Justin Eads walked. Carter Naughton drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to center field, but Chandler Purcell flew out and Nolan Snyder hit into a fielder's choice to end the game.

It snapped a six-game winning streak by the No. 14 Hawks (11-3).

Each of Quincy's six pitchers allowed at least one run, and right-hander reliever Karl Hirsch was tagged with the loss. Purcell, Naughton and Lance Logsdon each had two hits to lead a nine-hit attack.

In the opener, the Hawks relied on another rally to pull out a victory.

Trailing 6-2 through five innings, the comeback began with Purcell's two-run single with two outs in the sixth. A Cody Birdsong double, Michael Nielsen single and Logsdon walk loaded the bases to start the seventh. After Kalusniak walked to force in one run, Jeff Hightower tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center field.

A Roscetti single reloaded the bases, and Naughton ended the game with an RBI sacrifice fly.

Andrew Grieshaber worked four scorless innings of relief to earn the victory. He struck out two, walked one and gave up three hits.

Birdsong, Logsdon and Naughton each had two hits.

Lindenwood-Belleville 11, Culver-Stockton College 7: The Lynx scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to win a non-conference game in Belleville, Ill.

The Wildcats (4-11) broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth thanks to a two-run double by Brian Wolford and another unearned run. In the bottom of the seventh, Lindenwood-Belleville (11-10) got a three-run homer from CJ Norman to highlight a seven-run rally against four C-SC pitchers.

Wolford and Alex Satunas each had two hits for C-SC. Aaron Seward tossed the first six innings and gave up four earned runs. J.C. Jackson lasted one-third of an inning in the seventh and took the loss, allowing two hits and three earned runs.
