QUINCY -- Charges have been refiled against a Quincy man who was accused of battering an infant last year.

Kentrell Harris, 20, was indicted by an Adams County grand jury last month on two counts of aggravated battery.

He made his first appearance Wednesday in Adams County Circuit Court, where Public Defender Babs Brennan was appointed to represent him. His next court appearance is set for March 20 for an appearance with counsel.

Charges were dropped in January after Adams County First Assistant State's Attorney Todd Eyler said additional medical records were needed to move forward. He confirmed on Wednesday that the office now has the records.

Harris was accused of causing bruising on both sides of the head and swelling of the head of a child.

The investigation started after Quincy police officers were called to the Blessing Hospital Emergency Department on May 13, where the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services also was called on a suspected injury to a small child.

Police alleged injuries occurred while Harris was watching the child, and the injuries were not consistent with what he said took place.
