QUINCY -- An Adams County grand jury will review the case of a Quincy man charged with firearms trafficking.

Jeffrey T. Bennett, 41, appeared Tuesday in Adams County Circuit Court on one count of firearms trafficking, a Class 1 felony, where prosecutors said they would take before the grand jury.

Bennett was arrested Feb. 21 on the charge after the Quincy Police Department said it started an investigation in September on illegal possession, distribution and purchasing of firearms in the city. During the investigation, officers reportedly seized eight firearms, including an AK-47 in February. The AK-47 had been reported stolen in Adams County in 2016, and officers later learned it had been taken from Missouri.

Bennett said he hired attorney Gerry Timmerwilke to represent him in the case. He is set to return to court April 10.

He is being held in the Adams County Jail on $1 million bond.
