College roundup: QU women's tennis sweeps dual match

The Quincy University women's tennis team swept Shepherd 7-0 Friday in the USPTR Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C.

At No. 1 singles, Rita Kanaeva defeated Shepherd's Zoie O'Neal 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Makaela Hampton defeated Anna Bock 6-1, 6-2.

Anna Konczak and Marta Caballero-Garcia won their No. 1 doubles match, and Abby Moore and Kanaeva won their doubles match.

Quincy 6, Shepherd 1: The Hawks nearly pulled off a sweep in the USPTR Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C.

Samuele Contesible won his No. 2 singles match over Evan Dokken 6-0, 6-1. Dane Mechali won at No. 3 singles over Kaleb Lochner 6-2, 6-0.

King 3, Quincy 1: The Hawks took the second set, but lost 25-21, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21 in Bristol, Tenn.

Adam Rogan led QU with 41 assists, two aces and seven digs. Omari Wheeler had 17 kills for QU, while Noam Hannoun had 17 digs.

Freed Hardeman 12, Hannibal-LaGrange 1: The Lions scored 12 unanswered runs to defeat the Trojans in American Midwest Conference action in Henderson, Tenn.

HLGU (7-11, 3-8 AMC) scored the game's first run in the first inning on Collin McPherson's sacrifice fly.

Lions' starter Alex Huey struck out seven, and was helped by home runs by Will McCall and Josh Sears.

Spring Break Invitational: The Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team finished tied for 10th in Opelika, Ala.

Connor Bronson was the low Wildcat after shooting a two-day score of 153 and tied for 25th. Hunter Bettis carded a 156 and tied for 34th.

Jimmie Patterson tied for 50th after shooting a 164.

On the women's side, Cassie Navo carded a 190 to finish in 40th. Haley Haugh was 46th with a 202, and Grace Frese was 52nd with a 242.
