QUINCY -- It wasn't the prettiest way to score a goal.
Eric Hill, however, will take a season-opening victory.
In the first minute of the second overtime, Kaylee Falconer pounced on a loose ball in the box that was sent in off a corner kick and fired it into the back of the net to give the Hannibal girls soccer team a 1-0 victory over Quincy High School Friday at Flinn Stadium.
"It wasn't something that I'd say was a perfect way to execute a corner kick," Hill said. "I'm sure (QHS coach Travis Dinkheller) is frustrated they didn't get it cleared it out by how it was just bouncing around."
Either way, it gave Hannibal (1-0) a favorable result to start the season.
"Our girls just stayed on top of it," Hill said. "We had a couple other opportunities, but the ball bounced back to Kaylee, and she put into the back of the net."
Both sides had scoring chances despite two scoreless first halves. Quincy registered 13 shots, while Hannibal had 12.
"The main thing is we defended really well," Hill said. "Quincy had a few really good opportunities in the first half that they probably should have put away."
