Prep roundup: Blue Devils win three in own tournament

The Quincy High School girls softball team won three games on Saturday at its own tournament.

The Blue Devils opened with an 11-0 victory over Griggsville-Perry behind a one-hit shutout from Makayla Wand. She struck out eight batters in four innings, while the Blue Devils scored 11 runs off 11 hits in three innings. Abbie Neally, Taylor Frink, and Wand all had two RBIs.

Lauren Kroeger and Ella Marks had three RBIs each in a 15-2 victory over Jacksonville. Neally allowed two runs off four hits and struck out seven.

Neally then tossed a complete-game, three-hit shutout as the Blue Devils defeated West Hancock 3-0. Kiley Espinoza went 3-for-4 and scored Quincy's first two runs, scoring on RBI singles by Neally in third inning and Taylor Frink in the fifth.

Maggie Bauerly singled to drive in Ella Marks after Marks tripled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to give Quincy (5-0) a three-run lead.

Neally struck out six, walked none and didn't allow more than one baserunner in any inning. No West Hancock runner got past second base.

Brooklyn Walker struck out eight and threw 116 pitches in six innings for West Hancock.

West Hancock 11, Griggsville-Perry 1: Reagan Eaves went 3-for-3 with four RBIs as West Hancock defeated Griggsville-Perry 11-1. Eaves had an RBI double in the first inning, an RBI single in the second and a two-run home run in the third. Megan Fox and Liz Walker each had two hits and scored twice. Montanna Andrews and Brooklyn Walker had two RBIs apiece and had back-to-back RBI doubles in the second inning. Kaitlyn Leenerts scored the lone run of the game for the Tornadoes on an error in the top of the fifth.

Unity 4-12, Pittsfield 3-0: Addison Miller did it all for the Mustangs in the second game of a doublerheader in Pittsfield. Miller threw a no-hitter, striking out 12 Saukees in five innings of work. Miller also had three doubles, scored two runs and had three RBIs. Unity scored 12 runs off 10 hits with at least 2 runs in each inning.

In game one, McKinley Jennings hit an RBI single to put the Saukees in front 1-0 in the first inning. A bases-loaded one-out walk pushed the lead to 2-0, but Miller came in on relief and struck out two batters to get out of the jam. The Mustangs tied the game at two in the third off an error and a Krista Schrader sacrifice fly that scored Hawley Corrigan. Pittsfield retook the lead on a passed ball in the fourth, but Unity answered with two runs on an error and an RBI single from Katlyn Corrigan.

Central 11, Brown County 0: Makayla Crim tossed five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven. The Panthers led 1-0 before a five-run third, highligted by RBI singles from Crim and Kylie Wilson, blew the game open. Kennady Marlow and Libby Ippenson hit RBI singles in the fourth to push the lead to 10-0. Brown County tallied 11 errors.
