QUINCY -- John Wood Community College has been named one of the five safest campuses in America by the National Council for Home Safety and Security.

The annual NCHSS ranking is based on locally submitted police reports, FBI crime data and other relevant information, according to information supplied by the organization.

According to the NCHSS, the top five safest college campuses are:

º 1. Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, Tenn.

º 2. South Georgia State College, Douglas, Ga.

º 3. Elon University, Elon, N.C.

º 4. Jackson State Community College, Jackson, Tenn.

º 5. John Wood Community College, Quincy, Ill.

The full ranking is available at alarms.org/safest-colleges.

The NCHSS arrived at its rankings by comparing law enforcement and FBI crime reports from 490 colleges, excluding colleges with student populations of less than 1,000, plus schools that lacked any of the necessary data. The NCHSS also omitted colleges that failed to submit crime reports to the FBI.

The NCHSS is a trade association made up of companies in the security sector, including licensed alarm installers, contractors and other related groups across the United States.
