The John Wood Community College baseball team scored nine runs in the first two innings of the second game of Saturday's Mid-West Athletic Conference doubleheader to earn a 15-5 victory over Danville and salvage a split.
The Jaguars won the first game 11-10.
Brendan Larkin had a bases-clearing double in the six-run first inning, and the Trail Blazers added three runs in the second. Danville pulled within 9-4 heading to the fifth, but Noah McCreary hit a solo home run and Doug Barker and Andrew Fay provided RBI doubles. Larkin had three hits in the nightcap, while Barker drove in four runs.
In the opener, Larkin's RBI single in the first inning gave JWCC the lead before Danville scored seven consecutive runs. A bases-clearing triple from Jeffre Castillo pulled the Trail Blazers within 7-5 in the fifth. A two-run triple by Jorge Valdes and RBI singles from Barker and Castillo in the sixth gave JWCC a 10-7 lead.
However, the Jaguars retook the lead with a two-run homeer from Noah Nelson. Valdes drove in three runs with two hits for the Trail Blazers, while Castillo had three hits and four RBIs.
MidAmerica Nazarene 14-9, Culver-Stockton 12-8: The Wildcats were swept in a Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader in Olathe, Kan.
The Wildcats rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the opener with RBI singles from Chase Jones, Alejandro Cardinale, Nick Stratman, Alex Satunas and T.J. Durfee to take a 6-5 lead. The lead changed hands a couple of time with Satunas hitting a two-run home run in the sixth to pull the Wildcats within 11-10, but MidAmerica Nazarene added three runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the second game, the Wildcats fell behind 6-2. C-SC (17-26, 9-15 Heart) scored two runs in the fifth off an RBI single from Sean McVeigh and an error, and cut the deficit to 6-5 on an error in the sixth. The Wildcats took an 8-6 lead in the seventh after RBI triples by Durfee and Jonny Damon and an RBI single from Caleb Antonacci, but the lead evaporated and MidAmerica Nazarene's Cristian Rivera hit a walk-off single in the seventh.
Missouri Baptist 6-10, Hannibal-LaGrange 5-4: The Trojans were swept in an American Midwest Conference doubleheader in St. Louis.
Justin Bote put HLGU (15-29, 6-23 AMC) on the board with a solo shot to left. Zach Seiler followed with an RBI single and Jacob Bone scored on an error to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead. The Spartans (30-14, 17-9 AMC) retook the lead in fourth 4-3, but Bote answered with a two-run home run. In the sixth, Caleb Dean's solo home run to center tied the game for Missouri Baptist. The Spartans walked off with the victory in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Jonathon Pasillas.
In the second game, the Trojans fell behind 9-2 and never recoverd. The Spartans' Josh Ray threw seven innings and allowed two runs off three hits and struck out 11 Trojans.
