Prep softball roundup: Titans rally to win late

The West Hancock softball team erased a two-run deficit with three runs across the fifth and sixth innings to beat Unity 4-3 Monday afternoon in Hamilton.

In the fifth, West Hancock plated a run on an error, and Liz Walker's RBI single tied the game at 3-3. The Titans took the lead in the sixth on Brenna Lamm's RBI single.

Megan Fox retired the Mustangs in order in the seventh to seal the game.

West Hancock led 1-0 in the first on Reagan Eaves' RBI single. Unity, however, answered with Annabelle Schaffnit's two-run single. The lead was pushed to three when Addi Miller hit an inside-the-park home run.

Illini West 8, Abingdon-Avon 0: Daytona Dooley smacked a two-run homer in the first inning to spark the Chargers in Carthage.

Illini West built on its lead with two runs in the third put the game away with a four-run sixth.

Elizabeth Talley threw a three-hit shutout while striking out seven and issuing just one walk.

Payson Seymour 11, Southeastern 2: The Indians scored the game's first 11 runs on the way to a victory in Payson, Ill. Despite those runs, only two came on hits as Natalie Howell had a two-run double, and Riley Epperson had an RBI single.

The Indians had eight hits as the Suns committed four errors.

Southeastern scored its runs in the fourth and fifth innings as Denna Castlebury and Molly Rea each had RBI singles.

Tori Schieferdecker and Cheyenne Burgess combined to allow just six hits from the circle and had seven strikeouts.

Western 8, Griggsvile-Perry 7: The Tornadoes stranded the tying and winning runs in the final inning in a loss.

The Wildcats took the lead in the fifth on Kylin McQuay's RBI double, and added an insurance run in the sixth on Emily Schreacke's RBI single.

Griggsville erased a three-run deficit with a three-run fifth, highlighted by Jenna Kelly's two-run double.

Both teams combined for 22 hits. Griggsville's Kaylee Spencer had four hits, and Western's Savannah Hall had three hits.

Beardstown 7 Central 1: The Panthers' lone run came on Jesse Grawe's RBI single in the seventh in a loss in Beardstown.

The Tigers scored the game's first seven runs.

Central had just four hits, but stranded 12 as Beardstown committed four errors and issued five walks.

Carrollton 12, Pleasant Hill 0: The Hawks used a seven-run fifth inning to pull away in Pleasant Hill.

Carrollton led just 1-0 heading to the fifth before the offensive eruption. The Hawks added four more runs in the sixth.
