PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- A Quincy man arrested Tuesday on multiple charges allegedly solicited sex acts from an 11-year-old girl over Instagram.
Jeffrey S. Peters was charged with one count of indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 1 felony; four count of unlawful grooming, Class 4 felonies; another count of indecent solicitation of a child, a Class 4 felony; and two misdemeanor counts of attempted distribution of harmful material to a minor.
Charging documents accuse Peters, 48, of soliciting sex acts on Instagram from an 11-year-old girl from Pleasant Hill on April 14 and 15. He reportedly made several explicit comments to the child on the social media network, and documents also allege that he sent an explicit photo to the girl.
Peters was arrested Tuesday by the Quincy Police Department, which said it and the Pike County Sheriff's Department began working in conjunction on an investigation this month after police became aware of an internet conversation between a man from Quincy and a minor from Pleasant Hill.
After his arrest, Peters was interviewed at the Quincy Police Department, and a search warrant was served at his home at 432 Evergreen Drive West.
He is set to make his first appearance with his attorney on Tuesday.
Peters is being held in the Pike County Jail on $50,000 bond.
