A rally 24 hours in the making came to fruition.

Trailing 4-2 when play was suspended by weather after the third inning Wednesday, the Payson Seymour softball team scored four runs in the fourth inning when play resumed Thursday and rallied for an 8-4 victory over Western in Barry, Ill.

Lauryn Hinthorne hit an RBI single to give Payson a 1-0 lead, but Western answered with a sacrifice fly from Emily Schreake and an RBI single by Chloe Mellon for a 2-1 advantage. Cheyenne Burgess tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the third, but the Wildcats got an RBI double from Schreake and an RBI single by Mellon for the 4-2 lead before umpires halted the game.

Payson loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fourth and tied the game with a two-run double by Riley Epperson. Burgess followed with a two-run double for a 6-4 lead. The Indians added two more runs in the fifth off an error and an RBI single by Hinthorne.

Tori Schieferdecker pitched four scoreless innings Thursday, allowing two hits and striking out six. Lauryn Hinthorne had four hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Epperson drove in a pair off three hits for Payson (14-3). Mellon led Western (7-7) with two hits and two RBIs.

Quincy Notre Dame 6, Central 0: Raiders freshman Eryn Cornwell pitched a complete game shutout in Camp Point, allowing two hits and striking out five. Kassidy Kenning put the Raiders on the board in the second with a two-run home run to right. QND (22-7) added four runs in the top of the fourth off errors and a bases-loaded walk. Kenning scored two runs off two hits with two RBIs, and Madison Gilligan had a pair of hits for QND. Haley Cramer pitched three scoreless innings of relief for Central (16-13), striking out two.

Liberty 11, Pittsfield 6: McKinley Jennings gave the Saukees the lead with a three-run home run in the top of the first, but the Eagles' Jenna Hahn and Allison Coonrod homered in the bottom of the frame as part of a six run outburst in Liberty.

Jennings homered again in the top of the third to tie the game at 6, only to see Liberty score twice in the bottom of the inning and never relinquish the lead.

Lawren Ruths and Hahn had RBI singles in the fifth to help seal the victory for Liberty.
