Prep softball roundup: Central splits two in Barrington

The Central softball team split a pair of games in the Barrington Bash Friday afternoon, falling to Dakota 7-2, but rebounding for a 9-8 victory over Somonauk.

Against Somonauk, Central's Kylie Wilson hit a walk-off double.

Jesse Grawe gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead with an RBI single in the first inning, and Mady Wear had an RBI single in the second for another run.

Somonauk cut the deficit to 5-3 in the third, but Karlee Marlow had an RBI double that was followed by Wear's RBI single.

Somonauk briefly led 8-7 after a five-run inning, but an error in the sixth scored Kennady Marlow and set up the walk-off double.

In the opening game, Central had just six hits and allowed four runs in the first inning.

Katie Hildebrand had an RBI double in the second, and Wilson had an RBI in the sixth. Wilson and Wear each had three hits.

Sacred Heart-Griffin 9, Quincy High School 2: Abbie Neally's RBI double and Addy Penn's solo home run were the only runs the Blue Devils mustered in Springfield.

Neally's double gave Quincy a 1-0 lead, but SHG answered with a four-run third and another run in the fourth.

Penn's solo shot came in the fifth, but the Cyclones answered with four more runs to pull away.

Pittsfield 11, Western 7: The Saukees erased a five-run deficit and a four-run inning pushed them to a victory in 10 innings in Kinderhook.

The game was tied at 5-5 after the seventh, and 7-7 through innings. Pittsfield's Kameron Smithers and McKinley Jennings hit RBI singles to tie the game in the seventh. Jennings' two-run double in the ninth, but Western's Emily Schreacke answered with a two-run double in the bottom half.

In the 10th, Rachael Boatright's RBI double scored the go-ahead run. Smithers added a two-run double.

Brussels 16, Griggsville-Perry 13: The Tornadoes allowed 11 runs across the fourth and fifth innings and couldn't climb back in Griggsville.

Griggsville led 5-0 through three innings before Brussels took the lead with a six-run fourth. Brussels didn't relinquish that lead.

Griggsville got as close as 14-9 after Jenna Kelley hit a bases-clearing double.
