Missouri district baseball roundup: Panthers cruise into title game

The top-seeded Palmyra baseball team needed just three innings to overwhelm Highland and reach the Class 3 District 7 championship game with a 16-1 victory at Flower City Park in Palmyra, Mo. The Panthers (19-4) will face second-seeded Macon at 5 p.m. Tuesday for the district title.

The Cougars scored a run in the top of the first as Avery Mullings led off with a walk and scored on Hunter Florea's double. The Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by Jacob Kroeger before getting an RBI sacrifice fly from Mason Scholl and a run-scoring single from Dakota Compton.

After tacking on a run in the second on a Brady Barnett home run, Palmyra dialed up 10 runs in the third inning, highlighted by a Nolan Wosman grand slam and a two-run single by Compton. Peyton Abbott's RBI double ended the game.

Compton went 3 for 3 with two runs scored, while Zane Meyers, Abbott and Scholl had two hits apiece. Corder Lehenbauer allowed one run and two hits while striking out seven to earn the victory.

Macon 10, Clark County 5: The second-seeded Tigers scored 10 runs in the first two innings and rolled to the victory in Class 3 District 7 at Flower City Park in Palmyra, Mo. Macon (15-5) had 13 hits as Cruz Lewis went 3 for 3 with two doubles.

Clark County (7-10) got on the board in the fourth inning when Tanner Elam scored on a wild pitch and Logan Gutting scored when Kegan Davis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. In the fifth, a walk and an error led to an RBI single by Gutting. The Indians tacked on two more runs on a balk and a dropped third strike in which the runner from third scored on the throw to first.

Gutting had two of the Indians' four hits.

Scotland County 9, Milan 3: Will Fromm went 3 for 3 with a double and a home run and double to lead the top-seeded Tigers to the victory in the Class 2 District 15 semifinals. Scotland County (13-5) will face second-seeded Putnam County (13-4) at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the championship game in Memphis, Mo.

Fromm hit a solo shot in the first inning to tie the game at 1-1. Scotland County's Anthony Whitaker doubled and scored on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3.

The Tigers took the lead with four runs in the fifth inning as Jacob McDaniel and Fromm both had RBI doubles. Branton Burrus worked a scoreless final two innings to preserve the lead for the Tigers.

Silex 12, Louisiana 0: The Bulldogs committed seven errors and were limited to just four hits in the Class 2 District 13 semifinal loss in Silex, Mo. The Owls plated nine runs in the third and tagged Bulldogs starter Cody Love for just four earned runs. Love, Ryan Capps, Will Sheppard and Tyler Hopkins each had a single for Louisiana (5-12).

Canton 6, North Shelby 3: The second-seeded Tigers (13-4) advanced to face top-seeded La Plata (14-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Class 1 District 13 championship game in La Plata, Mo. No other information was available.
