The 10th-seeded Pittsfield softball team earned the right to come home, scoring eight runs in the third inning to gain the separation necessary for a 19-8 victory over ninth-seeded North Mac in the opening game of the Class 2A Pittsfield Regional on Monday in Virden, Ill.

Pittsfield (8-19) will face second-seeded Petersburg PORTA at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the regional semifinals in Pittsfield.

Leading 7-5 heading to the third inning, the Saukees had the first six batters reach safely without putting a ball in play. The first three batters walked and the next three were hit by pitches, forcing in three runs. McKinley Jennings broke the streak with an RBI single through the left side of the infield. Another walk forced in a run, and Lilly Pepper delivered a two-run single to right field.

A Rachael Boatright RBI double in the fifth tacked on a run, and the Saukees put the game away with three runs in the sixth as Quinn Phillips had a two-run single and Jennings scored on a passed ball.

Jennings went 3 for 5 with three runs scored, while Kameron Smithers, Phillips, Pepper and Boatright had two hits apiece.

Liberty 11, Southeastern 1: The sixth-seeded Eagles used a seven-run fifth inning to put away the ninth-seeded Suns and advance to the semifinals of the Class 1A Payson Seymour Regional.

Liberty (10-10) advance to played second-seeded Payson at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Liberty built a 4-1 lead through three innings, getting a two-run double from Paige Anderson in the bottom of the third. In the fifth, Allison Coonrod singled and Kenzey Wagner followed with an RBI double and Jenna Hahn added a run-scoring triple. Two singles and a hit batter loaded the bases, and after a forceout at home, Faith Vance, Coonrod and Wagner ended the game with three consecutive RBI singles.

The Eagles had five players -- Coonrod, Wagner, Hahn, Katelyn Hummel and Lawren Ruths -- with two hits apiece, while Hahn, Anderson and Vance drove in two runs apiece. Wagner earned the victory, allowing one unearned run and three hits over five innings. She struck out five and walked none.

Southeastern scored its lone run in the top of the first, getting a two-out single from Dena Castlebury to play Molly Rea.

Chatham Glenwood 5, Quincy High School 1: The Blues Devils opened the final week of the regular season with some offensive struggles at the QHS field.

The Titans grabbed the lead in the top of the first as back-to-back singles were followed by back-to-back groundouts to drive in the first run. A walk, an error and a groundout produced Glenwood's second run in the third, and the Titans scored twice with two outs in the sixth to cap a three-run inning.

Quincy's lone run came in the fourth when Ella Marks led off with a double, but was thrown out at third on Kennady Fleer's grounder. Fleer stole second and third and scored when Taylor Frink's grounder was misplayed. Kiley Espinoza went 2 for 3 with a double for the Blue Devils (15-15), while MaKayla Wand allowed four earned runs and seven hits over seven innings with four walks and seven strikeouts.
