One hit was all the Southeastern baseball team needed.
In the bottom of the sixth Monday in the opening game of the Class 1A Central Regional, the Suns' Jaise Heaton drew a one-out walk from Payson Seymour starter Brady Hieland, stole second and went to third on Shad Flesner's sacrifice fly to left field.
That set the stage for Bishop Roberts to deliver an RBI single to right field, plating Heaton with the only run in ninth-seeded Southeastern's 1-0 victory. The Suns (9-12) advance to face second-seeded Central at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals.
Roberts had the Suns' only other hit, a double leading off the fourth inning. However, he was picked off and two flyballs got the Indians out of the inning. Payson was limited to three hits by Roberts, but he was chased with two outs in the sixth when the Indians got two runners on base.
Shad Flesner entered in relief and struck out Lucas Loos to end the threat. Flesner struck out all three batters in the seventh to save the victory. Roberts earned the victory, striking out three and walking two over 5 2/3 innings.
Hieland was the tough-luck losing pitcher, striking out one and walking five while allowing just two hits.
Winchester West Central 6, Western/Griggsville-Perry 1: The seventh-seeded Wildcats were held to just two hits, spoiling a strong effort from starting pitcher Tucker Kunzeman in the loss in the Class 1A Triopia Regional opener.
Kunzeman threw 116 pitching in a complete game effort, striking out 13 and walking one. However, Western (6-15) couldn't generate any offense. Jadon Bryant led off the second inning with a single for Western and scored on an error. The Cougars strung together five consecutive hits in the fifth inning, leading to four runs and a 4-1 lead.
In the sixth, Bryant drew a two-out walk and Tate Kunzeman singled to center field, but Trevor Tipp's groundout ended Western's chances.
Rushville-Industry 9, West Hancock 5: The eighth-seeded Rockets scored seven runs over the first two innings and held off the ninth-seeded Titans in the opening round of the Class 2A Rushville Regional.
Down 3-0 heading to the second inning, West Hancock allowed three walks and a hit by pitch and Brady Weishaar doubled as part of the Rockets' four-run second inning. In the third, the Titans put together a rally, getting three consecutive singles from Drew Martens, Josh Ferguson and Peyton Dooley with one out. It led to three runs with Vance Cameron capping the inning with an RBI double.
Rushville tacked on one run before West Hancock rallied again in the seventh. Martens and Josh Ferguson, who went 4 for 4, each singled after Lucas Fenton reached on an error. The rally fell short after two runs scored as two groundouts ended the game.
Bunker Hill 25, Pleasant Hill 2: The Wolves wrapped up a winless season with the loss in the Class 1A Carrollton Regional. No other information was available.
