Tori Schieferdecker didn't let a runner reaching base in the top of the seventh inning faze her.

A lineout and a strikeout left the tying run stranded at third base as the Payson Seymour softball team outlasted Liberty for a 3-2 victory Tuesday in the Class 1A Payson Regional semifinals.

Second-seeded Payson (15-4) advances to face Western at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the regional championship.

The Indians led by a run with out in the seventh when the Eagles' Lawren Ruths reached safely on an outfield error and reached third base on the play. Julia Hahn lined out to the shortstop in the next at-bat, forcing Ruths to hold at third base. Schieferdecker struck out Katie Wagner to end the game.

Schieferdecker struck out seven and allowed just four hits.

Sixth-seeded Liberty struck first as Allison Coonrod led off the game with a double and scored on Kenzey Wagner's triple. Payson didn't tie the game until the fifth on Riley Epperson's RBI double, and she scored on Schieferdecker's single for a 2-1 advantage. A groundout with the bases loaded later in the inning made it 3-1.

Jenna Hahn's two-out RBI single in the sixth trimmed the deficit to one, but the Eagles (7-12) stranded her at first.

Western 7, Central 5: A six-run fourth inning pushed the fifth-seeded Wildcats into the Class 1A Payson Regional championship.

Third-seeded Central led 2-1 before Western loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth. The Panthers' Haley Cramer induced an infield fly for the first out, but a sacrifice fly tied the game. Savannah Hall followed with a two-run single to center. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Emily Schreake, who drove in two more runs with a single.

Chloe Mellon drove in Western's final run with an RBI single. Katie Hildebrand hit a solo home run in the next half inning and Kennady Marlow hit a two-run double in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-5, but Haley Flores retired the Panthers in order in the seventh to seal the victory.
