BEARDSTOWN, Ill. -- The Illini West boys track and field team will be well represented at the final meet of the season.
The Chargers finished in second place in the team standings in Friday's Class 1A Beardstown Sectional and will send athletes in 10 events to next week's state meet at O'Brien Stadium on the Eastern Illinois University campus in Charleston.
Illini West's Colton Sargeant took second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as Rushville-Industry's Charly Tshibuabua won both events. Eli Newton took second in the 1,600 in 4 minutes, 43.57 seconds to advance.
Ty Jackson advanced in the discus after taking second at 135 feet, 10 inces. Tanner Coutler took second in the shot put at 44-6. Bryce Payne advanced in the long jump with a third-place finish at 21-0.
All four of Illini West's relay teams qualified after each finished second.
Illini West finished with 98 points. Pleasant Plains won the team title with 162 points. Central was fourth with 56 points, while West Hancock was fifth with 43 points.
West Hancock's Miles Sheppard won the 1,600 in 4:34.51 and the 3,200 in 9:55.33.
Central's 4x200 relay won in 1:31.78. The 4x100 team took third. Central's Chayse Houston took second in the triple jump at 41-6.5, and he also took second in the 110 hurdles in 15.94.
