JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Delaney Straus has set herself apart from the competition, and she's not even halfway done with what could be an incredible weekend.
The Marion County freshman runner earned her first state championship medal Friday, winning the 3,200-meter run at the Class 1 state track and field championships at Adkins Stadium. Her winning time of 11 minutes, 55.71 seconds made her the only runner in the field to break the 12-minute mark.
In the 400 dash preliminaries, Straus was the only runner to break a minute, qualifying first in 59.73 seconds.
The finals will be run Saturday, She will also run in the 800 and 1,600 races Saturday.
Knox County junior Jaiden Linebaugh qualified second in the 100 dash in 12.98 third in the 200 dash 25.86. The Knox County 4x200 relay team of Madison Easley, Sidney Miller, Linebaugh and Alyssa Peavler qualified second in 1:49.55, while the 4x100 team of Easley, Linebaugh, Peavler and Miller qualified fourth in 52.56.
