Three throwers reach podium in shot put at Missouri state

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Northeast Missouri throwers were well represented on the shot put podium Friday at the Class 1 state track and field championships at Adkins Stadium.

Knox County junior Brady Walton finished fifth with a toss of 45 feet, 7.5 inches. Knox County senior Logan Miller was sixth with a toss of 45-7, and Scotland County senior Grant McRobert was eighth at 44-5.

Canton sophomore Aiden Spurgeon also medaled on the first day of the event, finishing seventh in the high jump by clearing 6-1.

Scotland County's Matthew Woods qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash in 11.54 seconds and ran the anchor leg on the Tigers' 4x200 relay team that qualified with the third fastest time of 1:34.13. Kaden Anders, Spender Kerkmann and Alex Long ran the first three legs for Scotland County.

Knox County sophomore Conner Hayes qualified for the finals in the 400 dash in 51.98.
