CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Katelyn Robbins' highlight-filled career ended with two more state medals.
Two other very promising careers started with state medals, too.
Robbins, the Liberty senior, finished seventh in the 3,200-meter run and ninth in the 1,600 run Saturday at the Class 1A state track and field championships at O'Brien Stadium on the Eastern Illinois University campus. Robbins will graduate having won five state track medals and three cross country medals.
At the other end of the spectrum are Pittsfield freshman Katie Cox and Illini West freshman Caydee Kirkham. Cox finished third in the 300 hurdles in 45 seconds in the Class 2 state meet, while Kirkham was seventh in the 800 run 2:21.43 in the Class 1A meet.
There were a handful of medals going to other area standouts as well.
Illini West senior Kailee Artman won two medals, finishing sixth in the 100 hurdles 15.26 and seventh in the 300 hurdles in 46.64.
Pittsfield senior Chandler Hayden took fourth place in both the discus and shot put, throwing the discus 131 feet, 4 inches and the shot out 41-3.75.
West Hancock's Zarra Humphrey was sixth in the 800 run in 2:20.49, while Liberty's Paige Knuffman took eighth in the long jump, hitting a mark of 17-8.5. The Eagles' 4x100 relay team of Elli Sunde, Knuffman, DeLayshia Seay and Emma Frey finished ninth in 51.52.
The Eagles' Julia Hahn was 10th in the shot put with a toss of 37-9.75, missing a medal by one spot.
