QUINCY -- The homeless man charged in connection with the sexual assault of a teenage girl pleaded not guilty to charges Wednesday in Adams County Circuit Court.

Nicholas A. Havermale, 30, entered the plea to one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual assault.

The case was placed on the July jury trial docket with Havermale set to return to court June 12.

Havermale was arrested April 25 after the Quincy Police Department said officers were called to Blessing Hospital on a report of a possible sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl. After being treated for minor injuries, police said the girl was interviewed at the Child Advocacy Center and provided statements that she had been sexually assaulted by a family member at a home on Quincy's southwest side.

If convicted, Havermale faces between six and 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the aggravated criminal sexual assault charge and between four and 15 years for the criminal sexual assault charges.

Havermale is being held in the Adams County Jail on $75,000 bond.
