Novinger couple killed in Marion County crash

MONROE CITY, Mo. -- A Novinger couple were killed in a crash involving a semitrailer Wednesday afternoon in Marion County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said that Janie H. Goodwin, 77, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Earl E. Goodwin, 72, died at University Hospital in Columbia.

The patrol said Janie Goodwin was driving a 2016 GMC Canyon at 2:37 p.m. east on U.S. 36 at Monroe City, when she attempted to make a left turn from the right lane and drove into the path of a 2016 Freightliner driven by Lance A. Rogers, 34, of Bentleyville, Pa., that was heading east in the left lane.

Rogers was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Assisting at the scene were the Monroe City Police Department, the Monroe City Fire Department, the Marion County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri Department of Transportation.
