QUINCY -- An investigation continues into the cause of a Friday afternoon recreational vehicle fire that closed down the southbound exit ramp at Interstate 172 and U.S. 24.

Tri-Township Fire Department was dispatched at 12:05 p.m., and "when we arrived on scene, it was fully involved," Lt. Chris Costigan said. "Everyone was out of the vehicle safely."

Costigan said the fire was under control within 20 minutes, but firefighters were on the scene for nearly four hours.

The RV, owned by Mark Clark of Quincy, was a total loss.

The Adams County Sheriff's Department closed the southbound exit ramp for more than two hours.

Five different units and 11 firefighters battled the blaze. "Because of the size of the vehicle, the amount of fuel it carries -- it has propane on board along with diesel fuel -- there were a lot of additional hazards," Costigan said.
