SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The hits, and the victories, just keep coming for the Quincy Gems.

After defeating Springfield at home on Thursday for their fifth straight victory, the Gems hit the road to hand the Sliders another loss on Saturday, this time a 13-6 decision.

After jumping out to a 6-2 lead through five innings and tacking on a run in the top of the sixth, Quincy (10-9) let Springfield (7-11) climb back within one, with the Sliders scoring four runs in the bottom of the frame.

Quincy answered back immediately with four more runs in the top of the seventh, then an extra two runs of insurance in the top of the eighth essentially put the game away.

Three of the runs in the seventh came with two outs.

Wikth one out and a runner on first, Kal Youngquist walked and Ryan Ignoffo reached on an error that allowed Jacob Johnson to score. A Cade Schares groundout moved two runners into scoring position before Ignoffo scored on a wild pitch and Kyle Crowl jacked a two-run home run.

In the eighth, Joey Polak and Ignoffo delivered RBI singles.

Sam Rainwater started on the mound and went four innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out six and walking five.

Tyler Roeder picked up the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief where he allowed three hits and four runs. Tyler Clark-Chiapparelli closed it out with 3 1/3 innings of two-hitbaseball. Clark-Chiapparelli also struck out four and walked none.

Sean Klein did damage in the lead-off spot, going 3 for 5 with three RBIs. He led off the game with a double and scored on Youngquist's home run. Crowl went 3 for 5 with a solo homer in the sixth and a two-run blast in the seventh.

The Gems finished with 14, and they've scored 10 or more runs five times in the current win streak. They are now just two games out of first place in the West Division.
