QUINCY -- Nine applicants will be screened by a judicial screening committee for the vacancy on the Eighth Judicial Circuit created by the pending retirement of Judge Mark Drummond.
The candidates are Babette Brennan, Talmadge Brenner, Drew Erwin, Joshua Jones, Andrew Mays, Christopher Pratt, Ryan Schnack, Jennifer Winking and Mark Vincent.
Illinois Supreme Court Justice Rita Garman announced last week the formation of the committee to assess the qualifications of the applicants.
Drummond is set to retire Aug. 5 after 20 years on the bench. Vacancies are filled by the Supreme Court appointment. Whoever is appointed will serve as circuit judge until Dec. 7, 2020, following the November 2020 general election.
The screening committee is comprised of six residents in the circuit. Two of the members are lawyers, with the other four members being non-lawyers.
The lawyers are Jim Inghram of Quincy and retired Judge Diane Lagoski of Mount Sterling. The other committee members are the Rev. Orville Jones, Philip Krupps and Will Spear, all of Quincy, and Ann Revis of Pittsfield.
Krupps will chair the committee, and Spear will serve as secretary.
After the committee has received public input, gathered information and interviewed each of the applicants, it will report its findings to the Illinois Supreme Court, which will make the appointment from those applicants who have been screened by the committee.
The public is invited to submit comments regarding the applicants by writing the secretary, Will Spear, 1535 State St., Quincy, IL 62301, or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Comments should be sent to the committee by July 8.
