QUINCY -- The Quincy Police Department has launched a voluntary camera registry program that will allow residents and business owners to register the locations of their video surveillance systems with the department.

Through the program announced Wednesday, officers would ask registrants to check their video surveillance system for a specific time and date that might show activity involved with a crime in their neighborhood, such as a getaway car or the direction a person of interest was headed. Police personnel, if necessary, may request a copy of any video captured by the camera, which could assist in investigations.
