To The Herald-Whig:
I was so pleased to read about the continued popularity of the Quincy airport in The Herald-Whig on June 12, "Airport sees increased passenger counts."
I have used the airport several times in the last couple of years. The small airport with the friendly supportive staff is such a welcome change from the chaos and impersonal service of large airports.
The staff is very well trained. I went to Morocco last year and my complicated itinerary was from Quincy to Chicago O'Hare to Paris Charles de Gaulle to Rabat-Sale airport. My checked-in bags were correctly routed and were at the baggage claim when I arrived in Rabat.
Just last month I arrived on a flight from Lima, Peru, via Miami. The long journey was disorienting, and I could not work my cellphone correctly to call my son, who was on his way to pick me up at the airport. One of the employees saw my distress and promptly let me use her phone to make the call. This small act of kindness made a huge difference to me.
We Quincyans are so lucky to have both a train and an airport for our transportation needs.
