PITTSFIELD -- A Roodhouse man was arrested Monday afternoon by Pittsfield police officers.

Richard Burton, 38, was arrested on charges of improper lane use, unlawful possession of heroin, unlawful possession of fentanyl, unlawful possession of cocaine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the Pike County Jail.

Burton was taken into custody after officials with the Pike County Dispatch received a complaint about a reckless driver on Ill. 106. A officer spotted the vehicle and pulled the motorist, later identified to Burton, over for a traffic stop. Officials said a police dog from the county sheriff's department came to the scene and detected the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. Officials said upon searching the vehicle, they found illegal drugs and paraphernalia.

The Pittsfield Police Department was assisted by the West Central Drug Task Force, the Pike County Sheriff's Department and the Illinois State Police.
