SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Quincy Gems patiently waited for the winning rally to unfold.

The Springfield Sliders didn't have that luxury.

After the Gems took the lead in the top of the 10th inning Tuesday at Robin Roberts Stadium by scoring on a two-out, bases-loaded walk, Quincy right-hander reliever Tyler Clark-Chipparelli struck out the final two batters he faced and retired the Sliders in order in the bottom of the frame to preserve a 5-4 Prospect League victory.

Quincy scored four runs in the first four innings, taking the lead for what seemed for good when Drew Behling scored on a two-out balk during Joey Polak's at-bat in the fourth inning.

The Sliders pulled within a run in the fifth on Will Hanafan's RBI single, and had no other scoring chances until the ninth. Gems right-hander Jordan Mikel worked a perfect eighth inning and retired the first batter he faced in the ninth. The Sliders' Zeb Roos followed with a solo home run to tie the game at 4.

In the top of the 10th, Gems shorstop Kyle Crowl got the rally started with a one-out single to left field. A walk to Kal Youngquist and a strikeout of Tim Borden followed, before Corey Young was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Cody Vannoy drew a walk to force in Crowl with the winning run.

Mikel earned his first victory of the summer in his second appearance. He struck out two and allowed one hit in two innings. Clark-Chipparelli earned his first save in his 10th relief appearance.

He also went 3 for 5 with two home runs, a double and three RBIs to bump his overall average to .363.

Outfielder Drew Behling tripled and scored two runs for the Gems, who improved to 18-17.
