QUINCY -- Quincy Humane Society officials say they have used a $15,000 grant from the PetCo Foundation to purchase 10 stainless steel cat kennels.
Caroline Veihl, Quincy Humane Society community relations manager, said the kennels are larger and separate litter boxes from a feeding area.
The wheeled kennels replace older ones that did not offer separate quarters.
Veihl said three kittens will be able to live in each of the kennels.
Quincy Humane Society Executive Director Sally Westerhoff said that animals stay in the kennels until they are adopted.
"This is an investment that will last us for many years to come and assist us in maintaining a healthy environment in our quest to save thousands of lives," Westerhoff said.
Veihl said the nonprofit organization -- which doesn't receive money from the city, county or state -- was excited to learn of the grant.
"What that grant means for our animals is better care," Veihl said. "What that grant means for our staff is easier time cleaning and better maintenance. So it is really a good thing for everyone involved."
