CANTON, Mo. -- The Canton R-5 School District is seeking candidates to fill an opening on the Canton School Board.
Superintendent Jesse Uhlmeyer said the board is accepting applications until 5 p.m. Aug. 12 from individuals interested in filling the unexpired three-year term of Kate Raj (formerly Kate Hunt), who submitted her resignation in June. Raj was elected to the seven-member board in April 2017.
Under the School Board's policy, the board -- or a designated committee -- will screen the applications and select up to three candidates for interviews.
Uhlmeyer said the interviews -- along with a vote to fill the position -- will take place in open session during a special board meeting the week of Aug. 12. He hopes the new member will be able to start serving at the board's Aug. 19 meeting.
Whoever is appointed will serve until the next regular School Board election in April 2020, at which time Raj's former seat will be up for a full three-year term.
Uhlmeyer said anyone interested in applying for the board member position should call him at 573-288-5216 or send email to email@example.com. Applications also can be picked up at the school district's central office on Madison Street.
