SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Hannibal Hoots enjoyed two of the most complete pitching performances of the Prospect League season to sweep a doubleheader from the Springfield Sliders on Thursday night.

Sean Beaver and Matt Ottsen combined to shut out the Sliders in an 8-0 victory in the first game of the twinbill. They then watched JD Deany give up just one hit over 5 2/3 innings as part of a 5-0 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Hoots grabbed the lead in the second as Joe Roscetti scored on Brant Vanaman's triple. Vanaman scored on a groundout.

Jared Wegner jacked a two-run home run in the fifth and added a two-run single as part of a four-run sixth. He finished 2 for 4 and was one of four Hoots with two hits apiece.

Beaver, a right-hander from Webster University, made his Hoots' debut with four scoreless innings in which he allowed three hits, struck out six and walked none. Ottsen earned his first victory of the summer with three innings of relief. He struck out four and allowed two hits.

In the nightcap, the Hoots grabbed the lead in the second inning as Joseph Kalafut scored on a bases-loaded walk and Drew Gilin scored on a wild pitch -- both with two outs. Kellan Murray's RBI double in the third made it 3-0, while Sam Scott drove in a run in the fifth when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Murray scored in the fifth on Gilin's single to left field.

Deany struck out eight, walked three and allowed one hit for his first victory of the summer. Tyler Lunger finished things off with a 1 1/3 innings of hitless, scoreless relief.
