QUINCY -- The Quincy Gems had the chance to escape the first inning Saturday night having allowed only one earned run and giving themselves a shot at contending for a Prospect League victory.

Instead, everything unraveled.

A two-out error on a groundball allowed an unearned run to score and snowballed into a seven-run inning for the Danville Dans, who piled up 20 runs and 22 hits in a 20-4 victory at QU Stadium.

Following the error in the top of the first, the Dans took advantage of a walk and back-to-back singles before Walker McCleney belted a three-run home run for a 7-0 lead. The Dans tacked on three more runs in the second inning before chasing Quincy starter Sam Rainwater.

The Oral Roberts right-hander allowed 10 runs and eight hits over 1 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking one. Only three of the 10 runs were earned.

Quincy (21-19) did its best to stay competitive, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning on Tyler Clark-Chiapparelli's home run and twice in the bottom of the second on a passed ball and Sean Klein's RBI single.

However, the Dans took a 10-4 lead to the fourth and tacked on six more runs, highlighted by max Jung Goldberg's three-run home run. Jung Goldberg hit two home runs and was one of seven Dans with two or more hits. All nine hitters in the Danville lineup had at least one hit.

Klein went 3 for 4 with an RBI as the Gems were limited to five hits.
