EAST HANNIBAL, Ill., -- No injuries were reported after a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Pike County.

The Illinois State Police said a 1999 Ford Contour driven by Steven L. Charlton, 56, of Hannibal, Mo., was heading west at 3:35 p.m. on 332nd Avenue just west of 115th Street. Witnesses told police the vehicle went around a curve at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. The vehicle crossed the center median, went off the road before rolling over, crossing a ditch embankment and coming to a rest in a cornfield on the north side of the road.

Police said Charlton and his passenger, a 6-year-old girl, refused medical treatment at the scene. Both were wearing seat belts.

Charlton was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Assisting at the scene were the Pike County Sheriff's Department and the Marion County Ambulance Service.
