QUINCY -- The Quincy Police Department is reminding the public about a telephone scam that continues to take place in the Quincy area.

The scam is not new, but "we are still receiving calls on it," the QPD said in a press release.

The scam involves an automated phone call purporting to be from the Social Security Administration. The caller threatens to suspend the recipient's Social Security number for alleged illegal activity or an unpaid tax bill. The caller then provides instructions to call back to give more information.

"If you should receive one of these calls, hang up and do not call back to give more information," the press release says. "This is a scam. Be alert and don't become a victim."
