Ron and Ellen Howell of Quincy will recognize their 50th wedding anniversary on August 10, 2019. The Howells were married August 10, 1969, at the United Methodist Church in Manilla, Iowa. They have been Quincy residents since 2002. Ron was an education teacher for nine years followed by 36 years in the mental health and substance abuse treatment field. Ellen retired from Quincy Public Schools in 2009. She continues to sub-teach in QPS elementary buildings.
The Howells are the parents of Ryan, an archeologist in Madison, Wis., and Tara Howell Mecum, a teacher in Mahomet, Ill. Her husband, Kip, is employed at the University of Illinois, Champaign. The Howells have one grandchild, Jesse, in eighth grade.
Ellen is active in the Quincy NewComers and Red Hat ladies groups. Ron is a shuttle driver for Poage Auto Plaza. They are active members of the Vermont Street United Methodist Church in Quincy.
The Howells will celebrate their years of married life with a trip to Paris and London in September.
