SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The worst team in the Prospect League played spoiler Monday night.

The Springfield Sliders, owners of a league-record 24-game winning streak and a sub-.200 winning percentage, knocked the Quincy Gems out of playoff contention with a 16-5 victory at Robin Roberts Stadium.

The Gems (33-26) were tied with the DuPage Pistol Shrimp for second place in the West Division coming into the game, but the Pistol Shrimp (34-34) swept a doubleheader from Hannibal to move 1 1/2 games ahead of Quincy with only Tuesday's regular-season finale still to play.

DuPage joins the Cape Catfish as the West Division's playoff representatives.

Unlike Sunday when three Quincy hurlers limited Springfield to one run over the first eight innings, the Gems' pitching staff struggled to get outs. The Sliders had 19 hits, including seven doubles, and scored three or more runs in seven innings.

Quincy used two position players -- second baseman Cody Vannoy and center fielder Bryson Parks -- to pitch the final 5 1/3 innings, and they combined to allow 12 runs, 13 hits and three walks while striking out seven. The Gems cut the deficit to 9-3 before the Sliders tagged Parks for seven runs in the eighth inning.

It made the two runs the Gems scored in the top of the ninth inconsequential.

After an error led to a run for the Sliders in the bottom of the first inning, they took control by scoring three times in both the third and fourth innings. One run scored on a wild pitch and another on a bases-loaded walk in the third, while the Sliders' Logan Cody delivered a two-run double in the fourth.

The Gems trailed 9-0 before scoring three times in the seventh, highlighted by Parks singling to center field to score Vannoy.

Quincy's Alex Harbin went 2 for 4 with his first Prospect League home run, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Parks had two hits.
