SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- On Sunday, Quincy Notre Dame product Tommy Ray got his first start for the Quincy Gems in a 17-3 beat down of the Springfield Sliders.

On Tuesday, Ray picked up his first win in the Prospect League.

Ray entered in relief of starter Thomas Harvey in the fifth inning with the Gems up 6-4 on Springfield in the final game of the regular season, and he proceeded to shut down the Sliders over the next 4 2/3 innings.

Ray gave up just one hit and two walks while striking out eight batters and Quincy went on to beat Springfield 6-4 at Robin Roberts Stadium to close the year.

The win was a bit hollow for the Gems (34-26). After a 16-5 loss to Springfield (12-48) on Tuesday night, Quincy was mathematically eliminated from the postseason and stuck in third place in the Prospect League West Division.

DuPage, who is second in the West Division, lost to Hannibal in its final game of the year, but the Pistol Shrimp still finish half a game ahead of the Gems for the final playoff spot.

Quincy once again lit up the scoreboard with nine total hits, putting it with a league-leading 618 hits for the season. Bryson Parks also added his second home run of the year with a solo shot to lead off the game.

The Gems finished with 106 dingers on the year, setting the new Prospect League single-season record and shattering the previous record of 76 set by Chillicothe in 2012.

Kyle Crowl had a chance to tie the individual single-season home run record as well, but he wasn't able to send one out of the yard and finished with 19 for the season, which is a new Gems record. Crowl did finish 2 for 4 in the game with two RBIs.
