BARRY, Ill. -- Western School District officials said elementary and high school students returned to their schools for lunch and the remainder of the day after they were evacuated Friday morning after a reported bomb threat in Barry. The threat was not at the schools.

Pike County Sheriff David Greenwood said sheriff's deputies, along with the Illinois State Police, the Barry Fire Department and Pike County Ambulance Service, were called at 8:14 a.m. to 466 Tremont on a report of an explosive device in the house.

The schools and residences in the immediate area of the house were evacuated.

After an investigation by the Secretary of State Bomb Detection Team, the house was cleared with the conclusion that there was no threat of an explosive device.

Greenwood said one person was being questioned, and the investigation is ongoing.

The school district's Facebook page said students were bused to the junior high in Kinderhook and all students were accounted for.

About 10:30 a.m. the district said the Barry campus was clear and that students would be bused back to Barry for the remainder of the school day.
