PITTSFIELD, Ill. -- A Quincy man has pleaded guilty to three criminal charges accusing him of soliciting sexual acts from an 11-year-old girl.
During a hearing in the Pike County courthouse, Jeffrey S. Peters pleaded guilty to two counts of grooming and one count of indecent solicitation of a child. He had faced additional charges, but those were dismissed as part of a plea deal, court officials say.
Peters was sentenced to 30 months of probation, ordered to not have any unsupervised contact with persons under 18 years old and to pay a $1,000 fine and court costs. He will also be required to register in the state's database of sex offenders for 10 years.
Charging documents accuse Peters, 48, of soliciting sex acts on Instagram from an 11-year-old Pleasant Hill girl on April 14 and 15. He reportedly made several explicit comments to the child on the platform, and documents say he sent an explicit photo to the girl.
Peters was arrested by the Quincy Police Department after a joint investigation with the Pike County Sheriff's Department.
