Hornets rally with solid defensive effort

AUGUSTA, Ill. -- The Brown County volleyball team responded to losing the first set Thursday night against West Hancock with an aggressive approach, winning 23-25, 25-14, 15-13 on the third night of pool play in the Lady Suns Classic at Southeastern High School.

A stout defensive effort sparked the Hornets' rally as Kaci McKeon had 34 digs and three aces. Gabby McGath added seven kills, 13 assists and 10 digs, while Kacy Dunlap had 10 assists, 11 digs and two aces.

Meanwhile, Liberty blitzed Payson Seymour, winning 25-14, 25-18. Izzy Gimm led the Eagles' offense with nine kills, while Paige Knuffman had 10 digs and Taylor Hessling added 11 assists. Carly Wolf led Payson with seven kills, while Kaylee Burgess added eight assists and Livia Perry had 10 digs.

Unity finished the night with a 17-25, 25-21, 15-12 loss to Rushville-Industry. Maya Fuhrman had 31 assists and five aces for the Mustangs, while Krista Schrader added 15 kills while Jersey Hessee had eight digs and five kills.
