CANTON, Mo. -- A Tuesday night crash north of Canton involving a horse and buggy left a teen with minor injuries.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said that an Amish buggy driven by Susie H. Borntreger, 19, of Canton, was traveling north on Mo. 81, 4 miles north of Canton, at 5:45 p.m. The patrol said the horse pulling the buggy got spooked and jumped into the path of a 1999 Ford F-250 traveling south driven by Karsen L. Lay, 18, of Canton, which ran off the right side of the road and struck a culvert.

Lay, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken by private vehicle to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill., with minor injuries.

The patrol was assisted by the Lewis County Sheriff's Department and Canton Fire Department.
